Vacancy - Human Resources Advisor
Do you have experience providing HR advice and support to new and experienced managers? Are you passionate about driving organisational success through HR initiatives and support? We’re looking for a HR Advisor who is engaging and a good communicator to work in a varied environment with managers across a range of operational teams. This role will cover 2 operational sites in King George V Dock and Greenock.
Your Role
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the Port Director and local management team to deliver divisional targets and objectives. You will work closely with managers, providing practical HR advice that helps them lead their teams effectively and make fair, consistent decisions.
You will coach, educate and support managers on HR policies, procedures and employment legislation, helping to build confidence and capability across the management population. You will also support a range of employee relations activity, including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances and capability matters, guiding managers through each stage of the process in a timely and professional way.
You will work with the HR Business Partner to support change, business improvement and wider People Plan activity. This will include helping to initiate and facilitate local people initiatives that improve ways of working and support business priorities.
You will also proactively manage short and long-term sickness absence and ill health capability cases, working closely with managers to ensure colleagues are supported appropriately. Where needed, you will make referrals to Occupational Health and help managers follow up on GP or Occupational Health recommendations in a clear and practical way.
What you'll bring
You will bring a strong grounding in HR practice, with the confidence to interpret policies, procedures and employment legislation in a fair, practical and consistent way. You’ll be someone managers trust for clear advice on day-to-day people matters, and you’ll know how to balance good employee experience with sound business judgement.
You will be a clear and confident communicator, able to build positive relationships with colleagues at all levels. You’ll be comfortable working in a fast-moving operational environment, where priorities can change quickly and no two days are the same. Previous experience working closely with Trade Unions is advantageous but not essential.
You’ll also be organised, curious and comfortable working with data, using HR systems to access, input and analyse information, then turning it into clear reports and practical recommendations. You’ll be able to work independently in a local role while staying closely connected with remote HR colleagues and the wider People team.
Ideally, you’ll be CIPD qualified or working towards this. You’ll also need a full UK driving licence and access to your own car, as travel will be part of the role.
