Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Marine Operations Department based at the Port of Great Yarmouth. This position is a zero hours contract.

 

Role Purpose: The Deckhand will be employed on a casual basis to provide holiday and sickness cover for the team of Marine Crew. The Deckhand will be expected to support the Pilot launch operations and the mooring and unmooring of vessels, as well as other Marine functions.

 

 

This role will include the following responsibilities:

 

- Monitor and support the safe boarding and landing of Pilots and conduct mooring and unmooring operations throughout the Port

- Undertake Deckhand duties on board Pilot launches and other Port craft

- Ensure daily cleaning of the pilot station, surrounding work areas and pool car is completed to a high standard

- Communicate via VHF with vessels, agents and Port Marine Services

- Assist the team with routine cleaning, maintenance and pre-user checks of all port operated craft, when required

- Undertake safety related task decisions on the Quayside and at sea during mooring operations

- Handle large ship ropes and manual handling tasks on the Quayside in a safe manner

- Ensure daily cleaning of the pilot station, surrounding work areas and pool car is completed to a high standard

 

Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:

 

- Previous experience of vessel mooring operations and working at sea would be advantageous

- Experience of short range VHF would be desirable but not essential

- Knowledge of small fast craft would be desirable but not essential

- Possess or able to obtain Manual Handling, GYPC Man overboard and GYPC Mooring operations training

- Hold or able to gain a ENG1 Medical Certificate or equivalent

- A full valid Driving Licence
