Responsibilities

 

The General Operative role, within the Operations Department, will be responsible for providing first class labour supply and cargo handling services for all customers which includes but is not limited to, the handling and transportation of freight and goods on/off vessels/vehicles and to/from storage areas, plus other processes such as palletisation, stuffing/de-stuffing of containers and warehouse operations.  This role is a Zero Hours Contract.

 

Responsibilities will also include:

 

- Ensure compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and Procedures and have the highest regard for health and safety best practise.

- Carry out cargo handling duties that may include but are not limited to slinging, banksman, cargo lashing (including containers), counterbalance fork truck driving (including various attachments), skid steer and loading shovel (including various attachments), crane, materials handler

- Conduct clerical duties which may include but are not limited to gatehouse work, cargo tallying, checking and weighbridge operator.

- Consistently produce work to an accurate standard to meet targets required within the department.

- Remain flexible and reactive to changing operational requirements.

- Adhere to enhanced operator responsibilities.

- Ensure safe, careful and efficient vessel load/discharge in accordance with safe systems of work.

- Liaise with the Operations Department to ensure requirements for labour are achieved.

 

 

Skills and Experience

 

- Previous experience of operational plant is advantageous, including Fork Lift Trucks and Skid steer.

- Previous knowledge Cargo Operations would be desirable.

- Good understanding of Health and Safety best practice.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to adapt to varying customer requirements.

- Proven experience of multi-tasking, ensuring deadlines are adhered to.

- A full valid driving licence is essential.
