Responsibilities

 

The Port Operative role, within the Operations Department, will provide a first class labour supply/cargo handling service for all customers, carrying out such duties safely and efficiently on a daily basis.

 

Responsibilities will also include:

 

- Carry out duties including, but not limited to, the handling and transportation of freight and goods on/off vessels / vehicles and to / from storage areas, plus other processes such as palletisation, stuffing/de-stuffing of containers and warehouse operations.

- Ensure safe, careful and efficient vessel load/discharge in accordance with safe systems of work.

- Deliver cargo handling duties that may include but are not limited to slinging, banksman, cargo lashing, counterbalance fork truck driving, skid steer and loading shovel, crane, materials handler.

- Carry out clerical duties which may include but are not limited to gatehouse work, cargo tallying, checking and weighbridge operator.

- Liaise with the Operations Department to ensure tasks are identified and carried out to meet customer requirements.

- Ensure performance within the Department is at a high standard and customer’s instructions are precisely followed.

- Guarantee compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and Procedures and have the highest regard for health and safety best practice.

 

 

Skills and Experience

 

- Previous knowledge and experience of cargo operations is ideal but not essential. Experience of Construction or Port Industries is advantageous.

- Comprehensive understanding of health and safety best practice.

- A flexible approach to working hours.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

- A full valid driving licence is essential. A valid FLT licence would be advantageous.
