Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Operations Department based at the Port of Great Yarmouth.


Role Purpose: To proactively and efficiently lead the ports operational teams in the Timber Cargo yards and storage operations, working successfully with customers to deliver a first-class customer focussed service.



This role will include the following responsibilities:


- Provide efficient and effective labour and cargo handling services to all customers which includes, but is not limited to, the handling and transportation of timber products to, from and within the yard and storage areas

- Ensure compliance with the Company’s H&S policy and procedures and have the highest regard for health and safety best practice

- Provide effective and proactive leadership and supervision of General Operatives, third party labour, contractors, and users of port-controller yards and storage areas

- Ensure safe and efficient timber handling, storage and related operations and actively seek for improvement opportunities to maximise efficiency

- Liaise with customers and agents to ensure provision of a professional and well organised service, maximising revenue opportunities where possible

- Complete risk assessments and dynamic risk assessments and deliver toolbox talks

- Operate in hazardous and outdoor environments within the bounds of strict health and safety working practices


Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:


- Experience of port cargo, storage and yard operations, timber operations would be advantageous

- An understanding of tariffs, agreements and contracts

- Experience of plant and working operational areas

- Knowledge of best health and safety practises and procedures

- Ability to clearly relay instruction and information to team members

- A pro-active, hands on approach to work
