Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Marine Services Department based at Greenock Ocean Terminal, Clydeport.

 

Role Purpose: To support the SMMO in provision of a Pilotage Service. Provide a safe and efficient support service to Pilots boarding or landing from vessels within the Company’s area of jurisdiction.

 

 

This role will include the following responsibilities:

 

- Responsible for assisting in the safe handling and navigation of the pilot cutter during all pilotage operations

- Attend and support vessels berthing, un-berthing and shifting as directed by Estuary Radio

- Ensure all required entries are made in the Pilot cutter logbook and in a correct manner

- Support Boat Maintainer with maintenance of the safe and efficient operation of the Pilot Cutter

- Undertake routine maintenance, cleaning, painting and ensure good husbandry of the three cutters

- Review the COL maintenance support system on a daily basis and undertake work orders as the system directs

- Liaise with Liverpool Planners and LPS Operators as required to clarify Cutter tasks/work and to highlight conflicts in Pilot delivery to vessels

- Understand and be familiar with shipping movements.  Assist with communications and other functions as and when required

- Adhere to the Companys H&S Policy as laid down by Statute (Health and Safety at Work Act 1974) and carry out any duties with due care and attention to personal health and safety and that of colleagues

- Undertake training for and act as Coxswain on the Pilot Cutter

- Working in a shift pattern and to be available for emergency call-out if required

 

Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:

 

- Extensive experience of working in workboats/small craft in all weather conditions

- The role holder must be physically fit and agile, and be able to confidently swim

- Excellent communication skills to ensure all correspondence, whether verbal or written, is clear, concise and accurate.  VHF Licence would be advantageous

- A full, valid driving licence

- Capable of working effectively under pressure in a fast-moving operational environment

- First Aid qualified would be desirable, but training will be provided

- Possession of ENG 1 or ML5 Medical Certificate would be beneficial
