Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Marine Department based at Greenock Ocean Terminal, Clydeport.  Travel may be required for this role.


Role Purpose: Provide the Senior Manager Marine Operations assistance in delivery of the Pilotage Service and other Marine support functions, fulfilling responsibilities of the Harbour Authority including those arising under Clyde Port Authority Order Confirmation Act(s), Pilotage Act and ensuring conduct is in accordance with Port Marine Safety Code.



This role will include the following responsibilities:


- Fully engage the Pilot training provided, obtain initial Pilot authorisation, complete the development programme and progress to full Class 1 qualification, within the allocated timescale.  Exploit opportunities to gain experience, attending training courses and tripping on larger vessels when the opportunity arises, including when off duty

Pilot vessels within Clydeport’s jurisdiction in accordance with the Marine Safety Management System and Standard Operating Procedures, as guided by the Port Marine Safety Code.  Integrate into the Bridge team; assist, support and advise Masters in the safe navigation and pilotage of vessels, if the Marine Office Pilot is not piloting the vessel

- Develop effective working relationships with other Marine Office Pilots, Cutter crew, GPCC/LPS officers, Marine and Terminal managers, tug crews and mooring service providers, working as part of a team to ensure operational requirements are met

- Promote customer service excellence ethos with your team. Ensure Customer Service levels are met and report on under performances or non-conformities with a proactive plan of recovery

- Promote a successful Health and Safety Culture. Strive towards the company zero accident ambition, promote Safety 365 including behavioural rules and ensure the team learns from incidents

- Act as the duty Marine Officer Pilot on a rotational basis to support the requirements of the Marine department


Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:


- Piloting or previous and recent ship handling experience would be highly advantageous

- A valid ENG1 Seafarer Medical Certificate

- Articulate and able to use a variety of communication skills

- STCW 95 II/2 is desired with an ECDIS endorsement or equivalent and/or possession of a local Pilot Exemption Certificate

- Knowledge and understanding ship handling characteristics and berthing

- Familiarity with Health and Safety policies and procedures, the role of the MCA, Merchant Shipping Notices and a general interest in the maritime industry

- Possession of a valid and clean driving license is essential
