We’re offering an exciting opportunity to support the Mersey Engineering Cluster in delivering reliable electrical distribution across key port infrastructure. We are looking for an Electrical Network Technician to join our team at the Port of Liverpool and play a vital role in keeping global trade moving!
Your role
As a Network Technician, you will play a key part in the operation, maintenance, and development of one of Europe’s largest private high voltage distribution networks at the Port of Liverpool. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient performance of high voltage assets across the Peel Ports estate, including substations, switchgear, and critical infrastructure such as bridges, waterways, and impounding stations. Working within the Mersey Engineering Cluster, you’ll support planned maintenance, fault response, and improvement projects to ensure minimal disruption to port operations.
You will be responsible for the preparation, authorisation, and execution of low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) switching operations in accordance with operational procedures and safety rules to ensure the establishment of a safe system of work. A thorough understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, HSG230 – Keeping Electrical Switchgear Safe, and BS 7671 – IET Wiring Regulations is essential to ensure compliance and the safe management of electrical distribution systems.
What you'll bring
- Proven experience working on high voltage electrical systems. (up to 33kV or above)
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution networks and associated safety procedures.
- Relevant electrical qualifications. (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent)
- High voltage authorisation or the ability to achieve it within a short period.
- A proactive approach to fault-finding, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work safely in a dynamic operational environment.
- Competence in using maintenance management systems (e.g. CMMS) for scheduling, logging, and analysing electrical maintenance activities.
- Willingness to participate in out-of-hours call-outs or standby rotas as required to support 24/7 port operations.
