Marine Compliance Manager

Are you an experienced compliance professional with a passion for marine safety and governance? We are seeking a Marine Compliance Manager to support Medway marine operations, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, driving continuous improvement, and promoting a strong safety culture across the business.

Your Role

In this role, you will lead marine compliance, assurance and governance activities across Medway operations, ensuring adherence to statutory harbour authority duties, pilotage obligations, marine safety legislation and the Port Marine Safety Code. You will maintain and continuously improve the Marine Safety Management System, oversee audits and compliance programmes, support risk assessment and incident management processes, and ensure licensing, training and competence records remain accurate and up to date. Working closely with marine leadership and operational teams, you will provide practical compliance guidance, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and promote a strong culture of safety, accountability and operational excellence.

What you’ll bring

You will bring experience in marine compliance, safety management, auditing, assurance, or risk management within a port, harbour, maritime, logistics, or similarly regulated environment. With a strong understanding of the Port Marine Safety Code, marine safety management systems, and harbour authority responsibilities, you will be confident in reviewing risk assessments, incident reports, audit findings, corrective actions, and compliance records to support effective governance and continuous improvement. Your ability to analyse information, identify trends and root causes, and recommend practical, proportionate solutions will ensure high standards of compliance and operational safety. Combined with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, you will be able to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear guidance, build effective working relationships, and work collaboratively with operational teams, regulators, auditors, and external partners to deliver positive outcomes. You will also bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail, sound judgement, and a commitment to maintaining professional standards while managing competing priorities and confidential information.
