Responsibilities

 

The Marine Compliance Officer role, within the Marine Department, will support the delivery of safe and compliant Statutory and Commercial Marine operations ensuring consistency of understanding and implementation of compliance with all marine associated legislation and guidelines.

 

Responsibilities will also include:

 

- Administration of the Marine Safety Management Systems (MSMS)

- Maintain and ensure compliance of systems for investigating, monitoring, reporting and measuring marine incidents and accidents and to support the implementation of corrective actions and enhancement objectives

- Support the Marine operations locally and at Group level with auditing on compliance with the Marine Safety Management System and Port Marine Safety Code

- Identify improvement initiatives to improve any area of Marine Operations

- Develop effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, including but not limited to, Senior Managers, Marine Managers, Pilots, other employees, customers, contractors and members of the wider port community

- Support South East Port Cluster marine compliance objectives, which may involve occasional travel to London Medway

- Provide out of hours management and incident response as required

 

Skills and Experience

 

- A strong understanding of the Marine Operational environment, VTS Operations, Marine legislation, codes and guidance

- Previous experience with Safety Management Systems

- Inherent ability to prioritise multiple tasks, projects and change management in fast moving operational environment

- A recognised Marine qualification would be beneficial

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of the organisation

- A flexible approach to working hours with the ability to travel to other sites when required
