Responsibilities

 

The Marine Pilot role, within the Marine Department, will facilitate the safe and efficient conduct of navigation of vessels, within the Medway Pilotage District and, by agreement, the PLA District, in accordance with applicable regulations.

 

Responsibilities will also include:

 

- Pilot all classes of vessels with or without the use of tugs, in accordance with the Marine Management Safe Systems and Standard Operations Procedures

- Prepare and agree passage plans to allow vessels to perform their operations and leave safely upon completion 

- Obtain first authorisation and progress to full Class 1 qualification within an agreed timescale

- Support the Marine Management with any adhoc projects

- Attend training courses, work alongside Senior Pilots and gain experience on larger vessels, for progression through the pilotage class system up to Q-Max LNG Carriers

- Work as part of a team to ensure safety and operational requirements are met

 

Skills and Experience

 

- STCW II/2 Master Mariner Unlimited Certificate

- Piloting and/or extensive ship handling experience

- Possession of a Medway Pilotage Exemption Certificate

- A valid ENG1 Seafarer Medical Certificate, or equivalent

- A flexible approach to challenging environments

- An understanding of ship manoeuvrability, handling and berthing

- Able to use initiative and experienced in making quick and informed decisions

- A full, valid driving licence

- Team player with a keen eye on results and delivering value to the business
